Senior Retail Staff Accountant- Temporary

POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT (defines the major functions/purpose of the position)
The Senior Retail Staff Accountant reports directly to the Retail Controller and is responsible for the cycle of accounting tasks for the retail division including sales audit, month end accounting, account reconciliations, financial reporting, forecasts and budgets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Sales Audit
• Ensure the accuracy of the reported store sales by reviewing and correcting system rejects and tying the sales between the corporate office system and the store point of sales system
• Review sales audit results with store managers and initiate corrective action where needed
Store Support
• Provide support for assigned retail stores with accounting related issues, including but not limited to: sales tax, gift certificates, store credits, petty cash, credit card inquiries and customer service issues
• Work with the store managers to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures
Month End Accounting
• Prepare assigned journal entries: Banking, inventory, sales, and lease accounting
• Reconcile assigned cash, receivables and liability accounts. Resolve accounting discrepancies or disputes associated with account balances and reconciliations.
• Analyze assigned expense accounts; research variances from budget, and prepare entries for appropriate corrections or accruals
• Prepare assigned management monthly reports with notations to clarify financial data where needed
Other
• Assist with audits by preparing assigned audit schedules and pulling supporting paperwork
• Prepare expense account analysis for use in forecasts and budgets
• Unclaimed property reporting
• Controller as needed
• Other reporting and special projects as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Education/Experience:
• 3-5 years of accounting experience
• Experience must demonstrate comprehension of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Ability to analyze financial data.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting highly preferred
• Demonstrated Retail industry experience
