Jr. Network Administrator

POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT (defines the major functions/purpose of the position)

The Network Administrator is an experienced technician who performs day-to-day assessment, installation, monitoring and maintenance of the St. John’s central networking and server infrastructure. The employee in this position has responsibility for the day-to-day operation, security, reliability and throughput of the centralized servers, systems and services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Administers the Windows Server, Active Directory, and Messaging infrastructure such as, providing updates and patches to all servers (e.g. Blackberry/Email, Fax Server, & Domain Controllers)
• The administrator will be involved in scheduling maintenances to all LAN/WAN environments
• Performs system backups to all network servers (Wintel & Macs) and manages all file and print services and configurations
• Provides 2nd and 3rd level end-user technical support
• Will provide support for Citrix and Terminal servers. In addition, support the team and provide proactive solutions for server and desktop operations
• Must plan to manage Active Directory security model and perform monthly audits
• Prepare disaster recovery documentation and disaster recovery plans
• Manage TCP/IP components; such as DHCP, DNS & WINS configurations. In addition, assist with desktop operations when necessary
• Field incoming help requests from end users via telephone, e-mail, or in-person in a courteous manner
• Document all pertinent end user identification information including name, department, contact info, and the nature of problem or issue and log and track all support calls in the Kace ticketing system
• Be part of the on call rotation for after-hours support, up to one weekend per month
• Maintain a clean and orderly work space
• Comply with all IT Department Policies and Procedures defined by IT Management
• Provide technical documentation for server and desktop applications
• Performs other functions as necessary

• Less than 10% travel may be required as necessary

• Does not supervise any staff

Education/Experience:
• Minimum two (2) years experience in networking and server administration
• Demonstrated background with Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft Exchange networking and administration in a TCP/IP environment
• Expert in the maintenance of Ethernet-based TCP/IP networks including installing and configuring switches and routers; subnet management
• Expert knowledge of the design, function and implementation if Internet-type IP services
• Advanced understanding of copper, wireless and fiber-optic cabling systems design, installation and testing practices
• Associate’s degree or 3 years work toward a BS/BA at an accredited college or university
