Lead Pattern Maker

POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT

The Lead Pattern Maker will , through individual creative and technical ability, interpret designer’s vision into the creation of high quality patterns; first through production. Responsible for proper fit of garment through balance of pattern, pattern card, construction and sewing details and cutting information. Function will include but not be limited to the development of Block Library patterns and pattern related guidelines and standards


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Train and guides Pattern Makers and Senior Pattern Makers on Company standards for garment construction; i.e. utilization of blocks, draping, measurements, fusing, etc.
• Provides day-to-day technical advice and support to Pattern Makers and Senior Pattern Makers, anticipates, proactively identifies and find solutions to problems related to design aesthetic interpretation, pattern design, technical set-up, sample production, fit note feedback and edits, along with acting as intermediary regarding communication with appropriate parties
• As the pattern content expert, determines when appropriate to complete pattern styles from other Pattern Makers and Senior Pattern Makers due to the nature or complication of the style, to make pattern corrections, to meet deadlines, or any other factor based on business necessity
• Responsible for meeting production goals for all personally assigned Pattern styles:
o Produces Patterns from proto through production on all product categories (woven through knit; all garment types; complicated pattern requirements) based on seasonal style requirements
o Utilizes personal creative ability, technical knowledge and design aesthetic to interpret the Designer’s sketch in order to produce a pattern for the garment; ensuring that the pattern meets the Designer’s vision and has the ability to be produced in manufacturing
o Interprets information specified through design sketch, design specification sheet or dup fitting notes along with personal draping skills to produce corresponding pattern
o Resolves all issues from development through final production stage
o Uses Production Fit Note Set-up to create Production Patterns as per standard
o Consistently utilizes the St. John Block Library and How to Measure Manual which are the Company established foundation for pattern set up and measurement guidelines
o Meets or exceeds deadlines in the most cost effective and efficient manner
• Develops and maintains the Block Library patterns and pattern related guidelines/standards
• Seeks opportunities and makes recommendations to improve department processes, efficiency and quality of garment development
• Utilizes technical expertise on Pattern Making system software and makes recommendations to improve efficiencies, systems or needed upgrades
• Functional back-up to Head Pattern Maker in fittings

• Ability to be flexible and willing to work extended hours when necessary

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• This position does not have supervisory responsibilities
• Ensures work flow and processes are to maximum efficiencies for business necessity


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
• Interacts with the Technical Design, Sample Manufacturing, and Design Knitting departments along with the Designers and Production Management

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
• High school diploma or general education degree preferred; collage or fashion school degree in Fashion Merchandising or Pattern Making preferred
• 15 + Years Pattern Making experience required
• Computer Cad system experience required, certification preferred
