Title: Bartender
Status: Part Time / Non-Exempt

Purpose/ Summary:
To provide hospitable service to all bar top guests while making and serving gold standard beverages for the entire restaurant within the time limits set forth. Prepares and serves cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages for guests or service staff. Is thoroughly knowledgeable in all aspects of BJ’s handcrafted beers, wine list, specialty drinks and prices and can make recommendations.

Duties & Responsibilities:
o Service Execution
o Perform Station opening /closing duties each shift
o Greets bar guests within 30 seconds of guest sitting
o Has thorough knowledge of all BJ’s bar recipes in order to prepare cocktails and other drinks, serve wine, draft beer and bottle beer
o Has thorough knowledge of food menu
o Able to describe and recommend wine selections
o Able to describe and recommend BJ’s beer selections
o Take beverage orders guests while making drinks for all service staff
o Speak to guests to ensure satisfaction with food, drinks and service
o Present bills, accept payments, operates POS system
o Able to respond to guest complaints
o Operational Execution
o Check identification of guests in order to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol
o Upholds strict cash handling procedures and is accountable for all transactions daily
o Able to prioritize
o Clean bars, work areas, bar equipment, remove dishes and glasses from bar and take to dish area for cleaning
o Performs daily pour testing with manager to ensure proper pouring technique
o Maintain personal health and sanitation standards
o Review work procedures and operational problems in order to determine ways to improve service, performance and safety.
o Maintain clean uniform and understands that he/she is always on stage
o Attendance in mandatory meetings , training and workshops
o Ensure 100% compliance with all Company policies and laws, including health and safety standards
o Ensure compliance with BJ’s Code of Ethics, Integrity and Conduct, BJ’s Seven C’s, and BJ’s Principles of Professional Service

Necessary Skills and Requirements:
o Must be 21 years of age
o A minimum of 2 years full service, high volume, casual dining restaurant experience
o Ability to work in a fast paced environment
o Excellent organization and problem solving skills
o Mature judgment in handling all matters
o Good communication skills
o Ability to absorb and retain information quickly
o Able to memorize drink recipes to ensure speed and accuracy for guests
o Experience working in a team orientated environment
o Essential hand/eye coordination
o Knowledge of principles for dealing directly with the public
o Ability to handle cash, give change and balance cash drawer at the end of shift
o Standing and walking during entire 8 hour shift
o Lifts and carries supplies, cases and kegs up to 50 lbs
o OR….. Must have the ability to lift up to 60 pounds in weight on a semi regular basis
o Reaches, bends, stoops, lifts, shakes, stirs, pours and carries
o Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
o Understanding of restaurant POS system
o Ability to speak, read and write English
