The Opportunity
Summary of Essential Job Functions
The Area Human Resources Manager provides support and guidance to associates and managers as needed on a daily basis. This role partners with multi-property level leadership and HR team to guide and advise on culture, talent management, and employee relations, while overseeing multi-property compliance with Company, State and Federal guidelines. This role is based in the Anaheim area.

Business Partner
• Establishes and maintains strong, collaborative relationships within team to ensure a coordinated and cohesive work effort and consistent approach to managing policies and procedures
• Supports the local execution of corporate programs/communications that will impact our team
• Acts as an on-property point of contact for HR related questions (i.e. LOA, workers’ comp, benefits, HR processes)
• Performs the duties of the Area Director of Human Resources in the absence of the Director

Associate Relations
• Serves as the first point of contact for leadership associate relations support in person, on the phone, and email
• Collaborates and provides guidance and assistance to associates
• Serves as a resource for performance issues and coaching documentation; escalate issues as appropriate
• Communicates with associates to keep them informed on Human Resources, hotel, and corporate procedures, policies, programs and guidelines
• Responds to questions, requests, and concerns from associates and management regarding these procedures, policies, programs and guidelines
• Works to resolve associate issues by advising management regarding employment law and compliance, coordinating and conducting investigations, recommending the appropriate next steps and/or corrective action, and initiating appropriate steps for resolution
• Recommends associate relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-associate relationship and promote a high level of associate morale and motivation
• Informs of and collaborates on issues related to associate relations within the property and with the Area Director of Human Resources

Benefits

• Communicates, educates, and administers benefit programs in a timely and accurate manner
• Collaborates with members of the corporate office in order to administer benefit programs and at times may act as the intermediary with the insurance and 401(k) plan administrators for employees
• Assists corporate HR and coordinates open enrollment

Training and Development
• Ensures all leaders are effectively trained on Evolution HR Signature Standards
• Supports team with Learning Management System and training programs

Talent Management
• Provides assistance with the applicant tracking software to include posting positions, fielding requests for user access, and answering questions about use of the system
• Assists with sourcing candidates and interviews as needed
• Provides support (as needed) with new hire paperwork, orientation and department onboarding
• Assists with corporate HR programs such as performance review process and AOS
• Responds to inquiries from candidates for employment regarding available positions, status of application and other general HR questions

Culture
• Collaborates with multi-property managers on associate engagement activities (i.e., recognition program, celebrations, AOS process, etc.)
• Assists in the development of, coordinates, and implements various associate relations programs and events
• Promotes a work environment where associates are given the opportunity to contribute to their full potential
• Assists with ensuring that internal communication is in alignment with Evo’s culture
• Models behavior which supports culture and guiding principles
• Participates and provides guidance on associate committees to ensure culture is alive and supported
• Demonstrates the Evolution Hospitality Values and Guiding Principles

HR Administration
• Ensures that associate files are set up and maintained in accordance with company standard and government regulations
• Maintains confidentiality and security of associate and property records, files, and information
• Responds to unemployment claims; coordinate attendance at unemployment hearings as necessary
• Evaluates work procedures, reviews standards, identifies methods for increasing efficiency or effectiveness, and responds proactively to any needs that may arise
• Develops, prepares, generates and analyzes ongoing and special reports pertaining to associate personnel information and data
• Maintains and expands knowledge and understanding of existing and proposed federal and state laws/regulations affecting human resources management
• Assists Area Director of Human Resources with specialized projects, including research, data compilation, recommendations for action, etc.
• Conducts Human Resources internal audits to ensure compliance
• Ensures that federal, state and local laws and requirements are posted

Safety & Worker’s Compensation
• Proactively supports property General Managers and team leaders facilitate worker’s compensation programs
• Oversees prompt accident reporting and investigations
• Partners with General Managers and team leaders to manage claims and return to work
• Ensures reporting and documentation meets legal and company requirements

Performs Other Duties as Assigned

Job Requirements
• Minimum 3-5 years of Human Resources experience is preferred
• Bachelors degree in human resources or related area preferred
• English language proficiency required; bilingual in Spanish preferred
• Must possess strong communication and listening skills, excellent speaking, reading and writing skills
• Familiarity with Federal and California Employment Law
• Strong computer skills including intermediate or above knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
• Must have a broad knowledge of personnel law including fair employment practices, labor relations, workers’ compensation, safety and leaves of absence
• Proven leadership and coaching skills with a track record of developing highly motivated and cross trained group leaders
• Track record of working collaboratively with others to achieve desired results

• Effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations
• Consistently display professionalism, courtesy, etiquette, warmth, and enthusiasm on the phone and in person
• Handle multiple and changing priorities in a professional manner
• Objectively coach associates and management through complex, difficult and emotional issues
• Diagnose organizational issues and implement creative solutions
• Work in a fast paced environment and serve as an advisor and trusted confidant to the leadership team of the hotel
• Use logic to define a problem, collect information, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, interpret information for unique or unfamiliar situations
• Work collaboratively with others
• Ability to interact with a full range of associates (hourly to senior level management)
• Perform duties in accordance with company standards, policies, and guidelines, Federal and State Regulations

Other Requirements and Characteristics
• The work requires light physical exertion with long periods of sitting, occasional standing and walking; limited bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; occasional lifting/moving of items up to 25 pounds
• Ability to travel to multiple hotels in the Southern California Area (San Diego/Anaheim) upon request
